Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 PDP presidential candidate, has called out President Bola Tinubu, accusing him of playing politics with insecurity by appointing his kinsmen to top security positions.
Atiku’s comments came in response to the emergence of a new terrorist group, Lakurawa, in Northwestern Nigeria. He pointed out that with the frequent grid collapses in the North due to criminal activities, Tinubu should prioritize improving security, which is essential for attracting investments.
In a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described the military’s announcement of the new terror group as “unfortunate.” He criticized Tinubu for appointing his kinsmen to key security and economic positions, saying, “Even on the economy, he put his kinsmen in every key position, from finance minister to trade and investment, CBN, customs, and FIRS. Even President Muhammadu Buhari was not this brazen. Unlike Tinubu, Atiku is not a bigot. He has also not refunded money to the United States for alleged drug trafficking.”
Atiku also slammed Tinubu for committing over $13bn to the controversial Lagos-Calabar coastal highway, which has left many Lagos residents homeless, just to please his associates while other pressing matters are starved of funds.
He advised the president to “make hay while the sun shines,” as Nigerians are growing tired of his administration.
